Are self-defense shooters motivated by fear? Duane Thomas, an experienced gun writer, claims so in the March 2010 issue of Dillon Precision’s The Blue Press. I was so irate over this that I devoted my WND Technocracy column to it.
Far from being motivated by fear, students of self-defense who train with weapons do so out of a sense of responsibility. To borrow a phrase of which Mr. Thomas is so fond, it’s common knowledge that developing competency in self-defense mitigates fear. Those training to wield weapons in self-defense do so because they take responsibility for their loved ones and themselves. They are the opposite of afraid; they are empowered and they are devoted to the ideal of the citizen-defender.
